We’re excited to host our last Startup Standup of 2017 hosted by the Cuyahoga County Public Library! Startup Standup will take place at the Mayfield Branch on November 9, 2017, from 5—7 PM. The evening will feature 5 entrepreneurs pitching their ideas to the community and receiving invaluable feedback and resources.

So, why attend? The Cuyahoga County Public Library’s Innovation Center has become a major component in helping entrepreneurs create and grow their businesses. Everyone attending has the opportunity to tour the space throughout the evening of the event, and to talk about the library’s programming offerings and equipment available.

Jacinda Walker is the founder of designExplorr, an organization that celebrates design learning by creating opportunities that expose youth to design-related careers. This work takes place through youth activities; consulting with organizations on developing diversity-building initiatives; and by providing design resources to students and stakeholders. Since its brief inception, designExplorr has reached more than 500 youth.

They have been commissioned to execute the Design Diversity Index, work to diversify the AmazonDesign Internship pipeline, coordinate youth activities with Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum and presented this important research work to several organizations. DesignExplorr comes from Walker’s solutions-based research Design Journeys: Strategies for Increasing Diversity in Design Disciplines (2016), which takes a sober look at diversity in design disciplines and offers fifteen actionable ideas to expose African American and Latino youth to design. he also serves as Chair, of AIGA’s Diversity & Inclusion Task Force.

For over twenty years, her work as a designer, instructor, advocate, and entrepreneur has ranged from designing corporate communications to developing educational programs and event management. Jacinda’s future goals include working with organizations to establish design education initiatives and developing design programs for underrepresented youth.
